Every year on April 23rd, around one million children throughout Germany receive a book as part of the UNESCO World Book Day. The initiative, called ‘Ich schenk dir eine Geschichte’ (I Give You a Story), aims to inspire children with an exciting story, fostering their love for reading and strengthening their literacy skills. Various activities accompany this reading festival organized by Stiftung Lesen, Stiftung Buchkultur, Leseförderung des Börsenvereins des Deutschen Buchhandels, cbj Verlag, Deutsche Post, and ZDF.

In 2023, over 47,000 classes received this year’s World Book Day novel, ‘Volle Fahrt ins Abenteuer’ (Full Speed into Adventure) by author Katharina Reschke – the highest number ever recorded.
