The Swiss Institute for Children’s and Youth Media SIKJM developed two informative and effective guides, which provide families with helpful tools to encourage their child’s language, literacy and reading development. All ideas are easy to integrate in the daily life of families.
The guide “Growing Up with Stories” provides parents with toddlers and kindergarten age children with basic suggestions for promoting language and reading in their children’s everyday lives. It encourages parents to speak in their mother tongue or to read letters on street signs and products of their daily life.
The guide “My Child is Learning to Read” is aimed at parents with first graders and gives tips on how to support them in their reading learning process and in particular how to have a positive effect on their reading motivation.
Both guides are available in the four official Swiss languages and ten migration languages. Schools, libraries, daycare centers and other multipliers order the guide from the SIKJM and hand it directly to parents or put it up in their facilities.
