Swiss Reading Aloud Day

The Swiss Reading Aloud Day is the largest campaign in Switzerland that promotes reading aloud to children and young people. The Swiss Institute for Children’s and Youth Media SIKJM launched the event in 2018 supported by many partners. The Swiss Reading Aloud Day will take place every year on the forth Wednesday in May.

The concept is simple: anyone who enjoys reading aloud reads to others on that specific day – at home, at kindergarten, at the hospital, in the swimming pool or anywhere else. Celebrities and politicians also read aloud to children and young people on that day and thus act as role models to reinforce the message of the initiative. In addition, libraries, bookshops, publishers, museums, and other organizers hold public events throughout Switzerland.
