Book On Prescription

Book on Prescription is a project based on professor Barry Zuckerman’s idea of including reading in preventing treatment among young children, babies and newborns.

He was the pioneer of this method, which involves promoting reading books among young parents and people who are expecting.

“Parents reading to children, stimulate their brains, cognitive but also social, emotional, and lexical development by creating postive and happy absolutely unique experience. I was happy to hear the Universal Reading Foundation’s project will help to carry this idea for children’s helath and wellbeing in Poland.” – said prof. Barry Zuckerman.

This project involves the support of reading habits among children by recommending daily reading to children, their parents and guardians by medical staff. The main goal is to support the health and proper development of the youngest. Reading aloud to children daily routine and conversation that comes with it makes a non-substitutable foundation for their mental stability, developing social competence and intellectual and emotional growth.

Introducing that kind of habits from birth brings measurable results. We want the level of mental health in 10 years in Poland to be better, the science to develope faster and our elites to be more visible in the world! It all depends on the reading promotion!

The first edition of our campaign took place in 2019. Prof. Barry Zuckerman visited Poland and help us spreading the Reading on Prescription idea among medical doctors, nurses and the rest of the medical staff. He supported us with his lectures based on many years of research and experience. We have managed to engage paediatricians and neonatologists in pro-reading activities.

In 2023 we continue our work. In November we organise the first out of three training programmes for doctors where we want to educate them how to introduce reading recommendations in their medical pratice, as a part of prevention treatments for children and their parents.
