01/05/2024 EUROKiK

With “EUROKiK”, the cultural kick in the classroom for EURO 2024, we are using the enthusiasm for soccer and the EURO 2024 as motivation, learning content and an object of cultural education.  Over 150 schools from all over Germany have taken part in the project since the start of the school year. Using teaching materials specially designed for the project, the children acquired knowledge about soccer, the European Championship and European cultures.

In December, the first major highlight of the project was on the agenda: at the EUROKiK draw at the German Football Museum in Dortmund, with prominent support from Roman Weidenfeller (former professional footballer and ambassador of the host city Dortmund for EURO 2024) and Sven Voss (presenter of ZDF-Sportstudio), among others, each participating school was assigned a European country.

The associated task of the “EUROKiK-Challenge”: Present the footballing and cultural characteristics of your country as creatively as possible. The resulting projects were evaluated by a jury from sport and society in order to select the 24 best entries – one for each country participating in the European Championship. The children from these groups then played for the trophies at the “EUROKiK-Festival”, which took place in the VONOVIA Ruhrstadion in Bochum, on behalf of their country in a “mini European Championship”.
