12/05/2025 The National Readathon 2025

The National Literacy Agency of Malta together with The Malta Trust Foundation, and in collaboration with The Malta Foundation for the Wellbeing of Society, organised the eighth edition of the National Readathon on the 12th and 14th of May 2025. The aim of the Readathon is to foster a love for reading and storytelling among children, while nurturing a greater sense of awareness about their community and their role as active citizens in our society. To this end, this year’s edition took an intergenerational approach as these entities collaborated with the Ministry for Health and Active Aging by organizing reading and storytelling activities at St Vincent de Paul Long Term Care Facility (SVP). To this end, the chosen slogan for this year’s edition of the Readathon was ‘Sharing Stories, Connecting Generations’.

During these days, primary school participated in reading and storytelling activities in various wards at SVP. During the Readathon, H. E. Marie-Louise Coleiro Preca, along with local Reading Ambassadors Carlos Farrugia, Ruth Frendo, and Valerie Vella, assisted these pupils in interacting with the residents. Children read excerpts from their favourite book or narrated a story or poem that evoke a sense of nostalgia. The Readathon offered senior citizens and the younger generation the opportunity to share their stories and their reading interests in a safe and collaborative space, with the hope to inspire the rest of the community.
