The Summer Read-Through (Prečítané leto)
During the two-month summer holidays, many children experience a decline in their language, reading, and math skills—a phenomenon known as “summer learning loss.” The Summer Read-Through (Prečítané leto) is a seasonal campaign designed to help prevent this setback through the power of books and imagination.
Running over nine weeks, the project offers curated reading recommendations for toddlers, early readers, and teenagers. In collaboration with libraries, schools, and parents, it brings together inspiring stories and simple, engaging activities for the whole family. Each summer, a theme guides weekly book selections and creative challenges, all gathered in a special booklet full of encouragement, surprises, and kind words. The goal? To keep young minds active and spark meaningful moments between children and their families—all summer long.
Each year, a different local illustrator is invited to create the visual identity of the project, resulting in a unique booklet. Printed in a generous run of 35,000 copies, the booklet is distributed free of charge through public libraries, Martinus bookstores, and schools across the country.
The impact of Prečítané leto is clear: 95% of surveyed parents reported that the program helps them read more with their children over the summer, while 76% said it encouraged them to visit libraries more frequently. Through playful design and accessible distribution, the project not only supports literacy but also strengthens the bond between children, parents, and books.
