Reading in Focus

Reading in Focus is a literary project launched by Naklada Ljevak in 2021 during Croatia’s national Year of Reading, with the support of the Ministry of Culture and Media. It introduces Croatian high school students to outstanding contemporary European fiction, previously selected by their peers in other European countries (France, Finland, Norway, and the Netherlands).

The project brings together motivated students and teachers from diverse secondary schools across Croatia, reflecting both geographical spread and different educational settings. By reading contemporary novels, writing critical reviews, and engaging in live discussions with authors, participants develop reading literacy, analytical skills, and critical thinking, while fostering a lasting love of books and dialogue with European literature.
