This Classroom is Full of Readers (Naša trieda číta)

This Classroom is Full of Readers (Naša trieda číta)  is a project that supports the creation of well-curated classroom libraries—small, accessible book collections tailored to the reading levels and interests of students. These libraries are just a few steps away, always open, and require no library cards. Their goal is to foster love of reading by giving children the freedom to explore books on their own terms.

Instead of reading being a duty or punishment, classroom libraries encourage joyful, self-motivated reading experiences. They are designed to include books for all reading levels, helping even reluctant readers build confidence. To make it easier for teachers, the project offers a recommended book list, from which each classroom can choose 20 titles. Participants in the This Classroom is Full of Readers project also receive a 50% discount when ordering these books.

Five years after launching the project, there are over 1,200 classroom libraries established across most regions of Slovakia. This initiative opens up unique opportunities for children to access books directly — especially considering that 75% of classrooms joining the program previously had no classroom library at all.

89% of participating teachers report observing increased joy and enthusiasm for reading among their students. A similar percentage note that children with reading difficulties are engaging with books more frequently, highlighting the program’s role in fostering inclusive reading habits and nurturing a love for reading in all students.
